Beulah Valley Arts Council Workshops

Beth and Jonathan Evans are internationally known batik artists who have  created, shown and taught their art all over the world. With a combined  experience of more than 90 years working in the batik medium they have both led a dedicated and  adventurous life in art. They currently own and run Shalawalla Gallery, housed in an  old train boxcar, in La Veta, Colorado.
 

Whether you are a beginner or want to add to your existing skills they  will cater to your individual needs. It’s great for quilters or artists who would like to  incorporate batik into their work. Learn basic dyeing and wax application, detailed tjanting  tool work and layered batik techniques. You will journey from planning and drawing or  tracing your design on white cloth to boiling the wax off to reveal your finished  piece. In one day, you can leave with a colorful scarf and a small painting or two. All  materials are included.

You flock to The Market for Kari’s cookies – now you can decorate a dozen of Kari Purvis’s home-baked cookies to share with your family for Easter! Kari will instruct using royal icing. During the class, participants can enjoy carrot cake cookies and coffee and tea. 

Saturday, April 12, 2025, 1:00-3:00 pm at the Grandview Church, $35 

In this class you will make your own greeting cards using die-cut imagery and rubber stamps. Instructor Arlene Toledo will bring all equipment and supplies, including paper, ink, rubber stamps, a die cutter and other materials. Arlene designs and creates a variety of unique  greeting cards, and loves to share her techniques.

Thursday, April 24, 1-3 pm at the Grandview Church, $25 for 2 cards ($5 payable to instructor for each additional card)
